US Airways Changes Frequent Flier Program

In an effort to offset rising fuel and other costs, US Airways has said it will begin awarding frequent-flier miles based on the actual number of miles flown rather than a preset minimum.

The carrier also said it will begin charging customers who redeem miles online within two weeks of departure a $50 "quick ticketing fee." "We're making these changes to offset record fuel prices and rising airline related expenses while maintaining the benefits you've come to expect," the carrier said in a statement to customers. Tickets bought starting next month for travel beginning May 1 will longer receive the 500-mile-per-segment minimum; tickets for flights on partner airlines after May 1 will also accrue frequent-flier miles based on the actual number of miles flown.
