Today, July 28, 2008, Richard Branson introduces White Knight
Two, the first proto-type that Branson plans to launch in 2010, as the first
commercial aircraft to take paying passengers into outer space.
Branson, who
owns Virgin Atlantic, is also the brainchild behind Virgin America, the newest
low cost USA airline based in San Francisco.
Now Branson wants to conquer space with his newest future
airline, Virgin Galactic. The race for space is on and for those who wish to fly
into space will need a few bucks to do so. Virgin America will give one of its
frequent flyer members, who has at least 10,000 Elevate Points, the opportunity
to compete for one seat to outer space. The program, called Race For Space, will
give one member the chance to earn this once-in-a-lifetime ultimate trip.
Virgin America currently serves nonstop San Francisco to Los
Angeles, New York City (JFK), San Diego, Washington, DC (Dulles), Las Vegas,
Seattle and has applied for flights to Chicago O'Hare. From Los Angeles, Virgin
America offers nonstop service to New York City (JFK), Washington, DC (Dulles)
and Seattle. Starting September 4, 2008, Virgin America will begin nonstop New
York City (JFK) to Las Vegas. On October 1, 2008, Virgin America Elevate
Frequent Flyer members will be able to begin redeeming points and one lucky
member will qualify for the free trip to space.
